Spellings

Below are the 4 main spelling strategies which we are learning to use at school. The children are learning to use these strategies when spelling new and longer words.

 

Please encourage your child to use these spelling strategies when learning their weekly spellings.

Friday 9th February

Spellings

 

These are the words which your child will need to learn for the spelling test on Friday 23rd February. Please can you ensure that your child brings in their book each Friday in preparation for the spelling test. We find that if children have to complete this on paper it is hard to keep track of your child's progress.

 

List 1

hunting, hunted, jumping, jumped, buzzed

 

List 2

hunting, hunted, jumping, jumped, buzzed, there, here, they, where, were

 

 

The spellings tested this week were.

List 1

spends, rocks, catches, bunches, brushes

(if the ending sounds like 's' or 'z', it is spelt as -s. if the ending sounds like 'iz' and forms and extra syllable in the word, it is spelt as -es.)

 

List 2

spends, rocks, catches, bunches, brushes, ask, are, one, once, said  

(if the ending sounds like 's' or 'z', it is spelt as -s. if the ending sounds like 'iz' and forms and extra syllable in the word, it is spelt as -es.)
